PATIENT EXPERIENCE DESIGN

Taking the fear out of the first injection.

A training and self-management app for people starting a biweekly biologic for Crohn’s disease — designed around the two weeks nobody prepares them for.

THE PROBLEM

The medicine works. The first dose at home is where people stall. Interviews showed that the anxiety was rarely only about the needle - it was the fear of doing it wrong, alone, with no way to check.

THE EXPERIENCE

Injectwell shifts from a static library of instructions into guidance that stands next to the patient before, during, and after a dose.

RESEARCH & INSIGHT

“I wasn’t scared of the needle. I was scared I’d waste it and have to tell someone.”

“Let me try it once for real.”

“I keep a note on my phone of where I did the last one. I don’t know if it’s right.”

THE INSIGHT

Fear of the needle was one problem. Fear of doing it wrong, alone, was the bigger one.

The product had to prepare patients beforehand, support them in the moment, and remember what happened afterwards.

PATIENT JOURNEY

Confidence is lost and won in week three.

Four decisions made the product smaller, slower, and better.

One task per screen, always

Six steps instead of two dense ones. Hands shake; reading drops.

Practice mode ships before the real dose

Rehearse the full sequence with a demo pen, no medication used.

No streaks, no scores

A missed dose in a chronic illness is not a broken streak. Guilt loses patients.

The app never gives clinical advice

Every step defers to the approved Instructions for Use; symptoms route to a human.
